The Fantastic Four #606

December 24, 2013

Fantastic Four 606Jonathan Hickman // Ron Garney
July 2012
**

The team takes a fantastic journey into the human body to remove a tumor from their mailman. By far the most conventional issue of Hickman’s Four. For one thing, Garney’s formulaic style scants on imagining the strange bodyscape (compare N. Adams’ classic odyssey into the Vision).

Fantastic Four 574Jonathan Hickman // Neil Edwards
February 2010
***

Hickman, after a few prior glances, now focuses on the Richards kids. On Franklin’s fifth b’day, an adult self zaps in to offer Val prophetic warnings (a War btw Four Cities, trust Doom) & to restore his child-self’s mutant power. Four stars, if the pseudo-cinematic art weren’t so pedestrian!

Stan Lee // Jack Kirby
February 1963
A-story: **** // B-story: ****

A pair of interesting but unsuccessful experiments. The A-story breaks the 4th wall as the FF answers readers’ questions. Stan & Jack also try to justify Sue’s importance to the team (& book) but don’t pull it off. Part B’s an attempt at farce, as the team try to ignore an impish alien in the Mxyzptlk vein.
